Thermal Desktop: How to Download and Install the Compiler

To use Ansys Thermal Desktop, it's essential to have a correctly installed and configured compiler. This article will help you download and install your compiler, focusing on the required Intel Fortran Compiler Classic and Microsoft Build Tools

Prerequisites

Before beginning the installation, ensure the following:

  1. System Compatibility: Check that your computer meets the specific system requirements for Ansys Thermal Desktop, found here
  2. Administrator Access: The installer must have administrator rights on the compute
  3. User Account Control (UAC): Disable UAC through the Windows Control Panel and restart your computer to apply these changes

Step 1: Install Microsoft Build Tools

Download and install Microsoft Build Tools from Microsoft's Website.

During the installation of Visual Studio, you will have an option to select workloads.

It's crucial to choose the correct workloads. The default installation of Build Tools does not include support for C++ or the Universal Windows Build Tools, both of which are necessary.

In the workload selection screen, ensure to select:

  • C++ Build Tools: Provides the necessary compiler and libraries for C++ development.
  • Universal Windows Build Tools: Required for certain Windows-specific dependencies.

  • Warnings about the IDE or command-line can safely be ignored.

  • Once this is complete, download and install the Intel® Fortran Compiler Runtime for Windows* 2024.0.0 from the Intel Fortran Compiler Runtime Library:

Troubleshooting Common Installation Issues

  • Issue 1: If you encounter errors related to missing dependencies, recheck the installed workloads in Visual Studio and ensure all required components are installed.
  • Issue 2: For errors during compilation, verify that the PATH environmental variable includes the correct paths to the compiler and build tools.

Following these steps should help you successfully configure your compiler installation for Ansys Thermal Desktop. If you continue to experience issues, consider reaching out to Ozen support at support@ozeninc.com
