How to Recover Solution Files from HPC Server if RSM Crashes in Ansys Mechanical
Method to retrieve results files for an RSM job from the HPC machine
Should Ansys Mechanical crash and lose its connection to RSM, all hope is not lost. One can retrieve the results files from the HPC compute server/cluster and import them into Ansys Mechanical using the following process (assuming that the solve job is complete):
- Download the entire scratch directory from the HPC server/cluster to the computer on which the Ansys Workbench project resides.
- Open Mechanical and disconnect from RSM (if necessary) and Clear Generated Data on the Solution branch.
- Select the Solution branch in the tree, go to the Solution tab in the ribbon, and select Read Results Files.
- Browse to the downloaded scratch folder and select the file.rst results file for import.
- You will need to select the solver units when importing the results file that were used in the solution process. The solver units can be found near the top of the solve.out file, which is available in the downloaded scratch folder.
- After the results are completely imported, save the Mechanical model/Workbench project, and safely delete the downloaded scratch folder.
