How to fix issues using cyclic symmetry in Ansys Mechanical

Common Mistakes when using Cyclic Symmetry

There are two main issues you can run into when meshing bodies for cyclic symmetry. The first one is the Low and High region scoping. Each face needs to match with each other face. In other words, the number of faces selected for each cyclic region should be the same.

Another issue that can cause issues when meshing is an improperly located coordinate system. The cylindrical coordinate system needs to be at the axis of rotation. In the above image, we can see the cylindrical coordinate system for the body is at the axis of rotation. In the below image, the cylindrical coordinate system is at one of the off center vertices, which results in a failed mesh.
