Hardware Recommendations for Ansys HFSS
The hardware recommendations for Ansys HFSS are:
CPU (Processor):
-
Due to the fact that HFSS is an in-core solver, clock speed and RAM speed are crucial factors for optimal performance. Therefore, look for CPUs with the latest generation and high clock speed.
Memory (RAM):
-
Recommended RAM for HFSS is 8 GB per core or typically 64 GB to 256 GB of RAM.
-
High frequency RAM (e.g., 2666 MHz) is recommended for optimal performance due to the importance of memory bandwidth.
-
It is recommended to install the same amount of memory in all memory channels of both processors.
Hard Drives:
-
It is highly recommended to use an SSD. When possible, NVMe SSDs are recommended. Intermediate endurance levels are recommended (~0.3 DWPD), not QLC NAND.
Graphics and GPU Acceleration:
-
A graphics card with mid-range specifications, such as Nvidia Quadro P2000 or AMD Radeon Pro WX5100, can be utilized. However, it's important to note that these cards do not contribute to solution time and are solely responsible for displaying graphics.
Interconnect:
-
If you plan to run HFSS on a cluster of two or more nodes, it is recommended to use QDR or FDR IB interconnect. Moreover, ensure that the minimum network speed is 10 Gb to achieve optimal performance.
