Hardware Recommendations for Ansys HFSS

The hardware recommendations for Ansys HFSS are:


CPU (Processor):

  • Due to the fact that HFSS is an in-core solver, clock speed and RAM speed are crucial factors for optimal performance. Therefore, look for CPUs with the latest generation and high clock speed.

Memory (RAM):

  • Recommended RAM for HFSS is 8 GB per core or typically 64 GB to 256 GB of RAM.

  • High frequency RAM (e.g., 2666 MHz) is recommended for optimal performance due to the importance of memory bandwidth.

  • It is recommended to install the same amount of memory in all memory channels of both processors.

Hard Drives:

  • It is highly recommended to use an SSD. When possible, NVMe SSDs are recommended. Intermediate endurance levels are recommended (~0.3 DWPD), not QLC NAND.


Graphics and GPU Acceleration:

Interconnect:

  • If you plan to run HFSS on a cluster of two or more nodes, it is recommended to use QDR or FDR IB interconnect. Moreover, ensure that the minimum network speed is 10 Gb to achieve optimal performance.
